Mr. Wayne Smith

February 7, 1940 - September 22, 2020

Wayne Smith passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at his home in Robertsdale after a short illness. Wayne was the third born of Chester A.B. Smith, Sr. and Ressie Eleanor Webb on February 7, 1940 in Elmore County. A 1958 graduate of Wetumpka High School, Wayne and his family relocated to Robertsdale in 1985 from their native Wetumpka. Wayne retired from the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers in 1997 after a 32 year career with them. Wayne proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Chester A.B. Smith, Jr., and sister, Martha Joan Smith. He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Christine, three sons Brad (Katrina) Smith of Selma, Greg (Holley) Smith of Robertsdale, Ben (Jessica) Smith of Daphne and special son Tom Birks of Robertsdale. Additionally, he is survived by his granddaughter, Elizabeth Smith of Auburn, grandsons, Ethan Smith, John Haden Smith, Evan Smith and 2 step-granddaughters Hannah & Ava Purdy. He is also survived by two sisters Sarah Shaw, Eclectic, Alabama and Rebecca (Mike) Ryals, Newnan, Georgia plus numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Wayne was passionate about his love of family and a diligent work ethic. He worked to instill the same work ethic in his grandchildren! He always told his boys to take pride in whatever work you perform. As a master of repairs there were few things he could not fix! Wayne was a self trained musician and provided many hours of entertainment on piano and bass guitar. There will be a family visitation on Thursday, September 24 from 5-7 P.M. at Robertsdale First Baptist Church and a graveside service on Friday, September 25 at 10:30 A.M. at Baldwin Memorial Cemetery with Mack Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Ethan Smith, John Haden Smith, Evan Smith, Chad Broussard, Randy Poczekaj, and Charlie Murphy, In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief Fund or Salvation Army.
