Ret. Corp. Ronald E. "Ron" Harris

Retired Corporal Ronald E. “Ron” Harris, age 71, a native of Mobile, AL and a resident of Silverhill, AL passed away Monday, January 20, 2020. Corp. Harris served in the United States Navy from 1966 until 1972 in Naval Intelligence. He retired from the Alabama State Troopers after 28 ½ years of service in law enforcement. Corp. Harris was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Fairhope, AL, Alabama State Troopers Association, Gear Jammers Club and the Silverhill Veteran’s Memorial Association. Corp. Harris was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores. He loved flying, fast cars and spending time with his grandchildren. He was affectionately known as “Poppy” to some, “Chicken” to others. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Gail J. Harris; children, Michael (Jennifer) Harris, Johnny (Rhonda) Whidbee, Tracy (Butch) Kauffman; three brothers, E. B. (Jeanette) Harris, Jr., Shannon (Charlene) Harris, Calvin (Kay) Harris; sister, Jeanette Whatley; five grandchildren, Madison, Lily, Taylor, Rachael, Chase and five great grandchildren, Aubree, Johnna, Lane, Brooks and Maddox. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 24, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. at Mack Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Jenkins and Rev. Michael Harris officiating. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort, AL.
