April 5, 1934 - March 19, 2017
Rev. Leon Patrick, age 82 a resident of Summerdale, AL passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017. Rev, James Leon Patrick, Married to Thelma Esta Allen Patrick on January 8, 1955. They met at a Gospel singing, they both were from singing families and it wasn't long before God joined them together as a "perfect match from Heaven". They were married 63 years and stood shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand serving God together through all of these years. A few weeks after their marriage, Leon vountered at the Pastor's request to directthe music in the Methodist Church where they were membersd. Later Leon visited First Church of the Nazarene Church in Pensacola, FL. He felt led to the Nazarene Church where they joined and for approximately 10 years he directed the music and was a vounteer staff person. Thelma served by his his side. He was employed during this time at Chemstrand/Monsanto chemical plant as a certified pipe and asbestos welder. After 15 years at Monsanto he felt led to go back to college. So our home went up for sale and moved to Colorado to attend the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO. He took a job as soon as he arrived as Music Minister at the Indian Heights Nazarene Church. He built up a 65 voice choir that could sing the "Glory of God" down and the Church grew at a fast pace. After almost 5 years, he received a call to go to Tuscaloosa, Alabama at Holten Heights. The family just couldn't see leaving Colorado Springs for Tuscaloosa, knowing when God's call comes, we must obey. After several years as Music Director in Tuscaloosa, the Pastor had to retire The District Superintendent asked Leon abourt taking the Pastorate these so Leon had told him a year earlier that he was praying and felt led to take a church as the Pastor. Dr. Chaney, District Superintendent presented his name and it was unanimous. The family remained there doing music and preaching. His next Church was in Birmingham at Huffman Church of the Nazarene. The Church Board had given the Advisory Board the keys to the Church to close it. Leon loved a challenge. He set in to work and the Church grew to a strong congregation. His next Church was in Huntsville, AL at Universty Park Church of the Nazarene. From there to Ocala First Church of the Nazarene. From there, two years in the Evangelistic work and interum on and off for months at the Atmore Alabama Church of the Nazarene, Calvert Church of the Nazarene for 4 and 1/2 years, Excel Church of the Nazarene then to Robertsdale Church of the Nazarene for 7 and 1/2 years where he retired.....NO retirement yet, went as interum pastor to Mobile Parkview for 2 years, back to Calvert as interum and helping to complete remodeling of their personage. Leon and Thelma have gone on many Work and Witness trips trips in different countries and home mission work through many years off service. He served on every District Board. They were a "many talented" couple. Leon and his family, Thelma, daughter Moneica, son Norman sang across the country in in Campmeetings and revivals. He served as President of the Frost Bridge Weslyan Camp for 10 years and the family is still a part of this camp today in different areas. Leon has layed many blocks and hammered many nails at home and abroad. He could build a house, overhaul a motor, repair all the children's bikes, or whatever. He always had time for his family. He was always on call for anyone. He was such a people person to all people always and always showed love and compassion to all races and classes of people. He always had time to go the extra mile to do special things with and for his wife, his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. To the end of his time here, he still called for Prayer times, morning, night and at the table. Even as his memory going, he told people that God Loves them and that he loves them....what a blessing. He would say to folks up till the last few weeks that He loved them, God loved them and that "you need to love Him"!!!! WHAT A WITNESS. Rev. Leon Patrick and wife Thelma, will always have lasting impacts on many lives across this country. Their family will continue to serve in Ministry as they have ALWAYS DONE. Will always serve with honor as long as God gives strength. Rev. Patrick is survived by his wife.
