July 4, 1933 - February 15, 2019
Howard D. (Red) Owens Born in Sansom, AL on July 4, 1933 passed peacefully at home on Feb 15, 2019. Red as a youth came from very modest beginnings until he met the love of his life, Miss Nancy. For the next 54 years, they built a life together and raised a family filled with love. Family was very important to him and it brought him great sense of pride when his family was together. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to countless individuals who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. He lived a full and adventurous life filled with family, memories and special moments. Motorcycling cross country was a pastime he enjoyed and he logged countless miles with his close friend Don Barber. One of his greatest joys came from time spent attending activities and sporting events involving his kids and grandkids. In his younger years he could always be found at a ball field coaching a team or cheering them on. His other great pleasure was spending time in the country at the hunting camp with family and friends sharing a meal, swapping stories and enjoying the fellowship. His legacy will live on as the hunting camp patriarch. Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Warren Owens, daughter Kathy Owens, brother Clyde Owens, sister Shirley Mosier, parents Ralph and Ruby Owens. He is survived by his son David (Mendy) Owens, daughter Cindy (Rick) Purves, and son Gary Owens. Grandchildren Jeremy Owens, Jessica (Shannon) Smart, Jonathan Owens, Jennifer Purves, Hayden Owens and 4 great-grandchildren. Red was also blessed to have an ‘additional’ special son in his life Paul Allen. The family greatly appreciates the time and care received from Covenant Hospice. Their visits always brought a smile to his face. We invite you to attend a graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1300 E Hayes St, Pensacola, FL on Friday February 22 at 11:00 am. Immediately following we will have a celebration of his life at the River – 19580 Oak Circle, Seminole, AL.
