Elmer LeRoy Bishop, age 77, Resident of Silverhill, AL. He was also known by his family and friends as LeRoy, Roy and LaaaaRoy. He passed away suddenly on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Thomas Hospital due to complications following surgery. Proceeded in death by: Beth Ann Bishop (daughter), Elmer Bishop (Father), Neva James Bishop (Mother), and Lloyd Refior (Step-father), Frances Bishop (Step-mother). Survivors: Daughter, Brenda Seaton (Mark Gabel) of Fairhope, AL. Daughter, Becky Boteler (Marcus) of Silverhill, AL. Son, Elmer L. Bishop Jr. (Sonny)(Hilary) of Silverhill, AL. Lifetime friend Donna Bishop (Blassingham) of Pageland, SC, Brother, Ernest Bishop (Gayle) of Fairhope, AL, Sister, Kathryn (Cookie) Cassebaum (Edward) of Silverhill, AL, Brother Frank Bishop (Patricia) of Fairhope, AL, Brother, Anthony Bishop (Bonnie) of Fairhope, AL, Sister, Angela Gabel (Steve) of Fairhope, AL. LeRoy was born in a sod house on December 4, 1943 in North Platte, NE. As a young boy he soon learned the love of hunting, and fishing. He met Donna Styles (Blassingham) in March of 1963 and they were married in October of 1963. Together they had 4 children. While living in Nebraska he worked as a mechanic. In 1972 they decided to move their family to Silverhill, AL to be closer to his father and his brothers and sisters. After moving to Alabama he worked for Grant Tractor Co. until he chose a new profession. He went to EMT school and worked for Boykin Ambulance Service in Robertsdale. He then went on to be the first night time police officer for the city of Summerdale, AL. He worked for the Robertsdale Police Dept. for 20 years and retired in 2001. He loved serving his community. After his retirement he worked part-time for Radio-Shack/Motorola in Robertsdale. He loved helping everyone and never met a stranger; he was always so kind-hearted and would have gave his last dollar to help anyone. He loved to tinker with woodworking, photography, and working on computers. He always had a story to tell (even if at the end of it he was telling you a TALL TALE (a lie) ;-), He always was full of laughter and jokes. And...as we all know he was still looking for his 5th wife!! Well, that's what he always told all the ladies. (Wink-Wink) He has 11 grandchildren, Bruce Abbott, his wife Stacy of Alton, IL. Joseph Abbott, his wife Jessica of Jerseyville, IL. Amber Abbott of Beardstown, IL. Eric Abbott, his wife Christine of Jerseyville. Brittany Brill of Silverhill, AL. Brandon Brill, his wife Candace of Bay Minette, AL. Gavin McLeod of Lucedale, MS. Nicole Bishop (Aaron) of Coralville, IA. Jessie Bishop, Elizabeth Bishop and Elmer LeRoy Bishop III (Trip) all of Silverhill, AL. Blake Taylor of Robertsdale. He had 8 great-grandchildren, Eva and Nolan Abbott, Collin and Avery Abbott, Timothy Brill and Reid Mayo, Jace and Ashleighn Taylor Also, left to cherish his memory are a bouquet of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Even though is sad and our hearts are broken. We all know that he is in a much better place. No more pain and sorrow. He has gone to be with Jesus. Amen! A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Sunday, February 21,2021 at the Silverhill Community Center 16210 Fourth Ave Silverhill, AL 36576 from 1-6 with a memorial service beginning at 2pm.
