Charles Wesley Day

October 10, 1937 - July 28, 2021

Charles W. Day, 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Gulf Shores, Alabama (AL) on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. He was surrounded by his family, Cecilia Ann Day wife of 62 years, eldest son Chip W. Day, Orange Beach, AL, Chesley Day Bowling, Orange Beach AL, Craig Day, Concord, New Hampshire and Charles’s youngest brother Roger O. Day, Bainbridge Island, Washington. Charles leaves behind 4 grandchildren Sara Harris McCabe, Alexandra Sawyer Key, Ladd Sawyer and Whitley Day along with 2 great grandchildren Max and Mia McCabe. Charles was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was the second of 3 children born to Howard and Reatha Day. Charles grew up in the nearby town of Quantico, with his two brothers, Kenneth Day and Roger O. Day. At 17 years of age, Charles joined the US Airforce where he met and married Cecilia A. Davis on July 24, 1959. Charles remained active in the Airforce Reserves and worked in Civil Service at Pensacola Naval Air Station where he retired after 40 years. Charles, known to most everyone who knew him as Pop, was an easy going, kind, humble and giving man. If you were fortunate enough to know our sweet Pop, you knew he loved a good hot cup of coffee. He loved cooking and eating good food. He loved to travel! Whether he was off to a new destination never explored or just revisiting a favorite spot, he was always ready for an adventure. But nothing could compare to the love he had for his family. He was a devoted husband, loving brother, protective father, adventurous grandfather, and the sweetest great grandfather. He was a constant unwavering presence in all of our lives for as long as we can remember and there will be a big empty space now that he's gone. But in life, and now in death, he would not want us to focus on him. He wouldn't want us to focus on the sadness of his death, but instead focus on the happiness in our lives and the joy we will share when we meet again. He would want us to appreciate and love each other just as he loved all of us. And although we will miss him, his smile, his love and our countless phone conversations with him simply to check in; we take consolation in the beautiful memories he made with us. His kind spirit and sweet demeanor will live on in our hearts forever. A visitation and memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 10th, 2021 at Trinity Presbyterian Church located at 545 S Mobile Street Fairhope, AL at 5:30 p.m.
