July 23, 1942 - March 31, 2020
Betty Ann Hicks passed away at her home in Robertsdale, Alabama on March 31, 2020. She is survived by her husband, Perry Hicks, and her daughters Debbie, Amanda, Teresa, Carol. She also is survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers, and countless grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Betty spent her whole life helping others. Helping friends, helping family, helping strangers. She radiated kindness and love for all, not just family. If more people had the heart and kindness she had, this world would be a better world. In a life where often she had very little, she gave so much. She would piece together homemade blankets, sewing her love into each square. She would send birthday and Christmas cards to all, even if she didn’t get any in return. She would cook and bake for neighbors who might be having tough times. She was well known for her homemade wonderful potato salad, among other dishes. As a working mother for many years, her kids came first. She never once forgot to make school lunches, and made sure dinner was on the table, even after working long, hard shifts at a machine shop in the 1970s. In good times and struggling times, she put family first. Always, even to the very end. As big and loving as Betty’s heart was, she was just as tough. Tough in resolve. Tough in spirit of persevering. She was the true definition of strength. She never once backed down from helping and defending family, friends, and even strangers. Sick or in good health through the years she defended all and would battle for fairness and decency and what was right. Betty, above all, was the world’s greatest wife, mother and grandmother, and we will miss her dearly. One of our world’s true beautiful people and spirits, the world will miss her and be a little less bright without her in it. Rest in peace mom, and we will always love you and never forget you.
