Father Augustine John Moore Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Father Augustine John Moore age 88, a resident of Orange Beach, AL passed away on May 28, 2022. Father Moore was born in Mobile, Alabama to George Joseph and Pauline Mae Granato. He was educated in his early years in parochial schools in Mobile. He studied for six years at Saint Bernard Seminary in Cullman, Alabama earning the A.A. degree an at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmetsburg, Maryland, where he earned a B.A. degree in Philosophy. He earned his PhD from the University of West Florida. Father Augustine John Moore was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe on May 28th, 1960, in The Cathedral of Saint Francis in Santa Fe, New Mexico by the late Archbishop Edwin Vincent Byrne. Since his ordination to the priesthood, Father Moore has served in various pastoral and teaching ministries in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. Father Moore retired on July 9th, 2010, after more than fifty years of active ministry. Father Moore has published three books of poetry: Mountain of Desire and Other Poetic Thoughts, Alone but Not Lonely, and With Warm Breast…and Bright Wings. He also published a work on Saint Augustine of Hippo, The Restless Heart. Father Moore was an inspiration and example of humble service to all he met. Father Moore was preceded in death by his parents, George J. Moore, Sr. and Puline Granato Moore and his brother, Robert S. Moore. He is survived by his siblings, George J. Moore, Jr. (decased wife, Teresa), Pauline M. Felder (deceased husband, Joseph), Joseph A. Moore, and Deacon Philip B. Moore (wife, Shona) ; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held Friday, June 3, 2022, at 1 p.m. at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Foley, AL. A visitation with a Rosary will be held one hour prior to the service from noon until 1 p.m. at the church.
